Solio - portable solar power

The Solio has been around since 2005, and is gaining steam through word of mouth and hot reviews. It’s a universal charger that works on most handheld devices including cell/mobile, iPod, game player, digital camera, PDA and GPS.

To fuel the Solio, plug it into the mains or stand it in the sunlight. One hour of sunshine will juice an iPod for 40-60 minutes, and a fully charged Solio can recharge your phone twice over. The Magnesium Edition is billed as the most advanced in the range, but the Classic and Hybrid 1000 are not that far behind.

In general, the Solio is a handy one-stop shop if you’re running several portables. But hunt around for the best deal. Amazon ships the Classic for $95.78, on NPR it’s $99.95, and the Ethical Superstore has it priced at £49.95.

Seen these around thought it was a gimmick. Pricey but i guess worthwhile in the long run.

The price will probably drop as the product gets more sales, and rival retailers compete to drive the best deal. Also, there’s bound to be copy-cat versions on offer very soon…
